Nurse. Nonna. The reason nobody on the street has ever gone hungry.

November 2025 · St. Francis Parish Hall · Who they are
You have not seen logistics until you've seen Maria run the St. Francis bake sale. Clipboard. Sector map. A rule that every table has to have something for people who can't eat gluten "because everyone eats at this church." She raised eleven thousand dollars for the food bank last year and personally re-plated my wife's brownies because "they deserved better."

October 2025 · Napa Valley Avenue, Woodbridge · Milestones
We told her it was a small dinner. Forty people hid in the garage. She walked in, looked at all of us, and said "there isn't enough food" — and then there was, somehow, because she'd made a lasagna "just in case" that morning. She'd known for a week. Teresa told her.

2025 · The backyard, Woodbridge · Passions
John planted the first ones the year we moved in. This year I've got forty-two plants and I can't give the tomatoes away fast enough. Priya's kids come over to pick. Dave gets a bag on his porch every Friday whether he wants one or not. The sauce goes in jars, the jars go out the door with whoever's leaving. It's the same rule as it's always been: nobody leaves this house empty-handed.

How Nonna would like to be remembered
As the one who fed you — and the one who noticed when you weren't eating. As a nurse who never really stopped, just changed uniforms. As a woman who married a man who asked her to dance four times, and who is still dancing. And as a nonna whose kitchen is always open, whose phone is always on, and who will absolutely text you back. Eventually. In capital letters.
