Places and the map: towns, never addresses

A memory can have a place, and a Life Page can show a map of where life happened. Places are kept at the level of a town, a neighbourhood, a lake or a named public place — the arena, the church, the park. Anything shaped like a street address is rounded to its locality before it's saved.

Photos with a location

When you add a photo that carries a location, we offer to use the town it was taken in — and remove the exact coordinates from the photo before it's stored. The original you download later has no GPS in it.

Turning the map off

Managers can switch the map off under Settings → This page. Places stay on the memories; only the map view goes.

Occasions and the resting place

These are the exception: an occasion's address is exactly where people need to go, and a resting place can carry an exact spot for the same reason — and the resting place is shown to the page's members only unless you choose otherwise.

A town across your pages

The same lake holds Nonno's summers, your own, and the cousins'. Places on your dashboard (and Across your pages under a photo's town) gathers everything remembered in one town across every page you belong to — one map of all your towns, one card per town, each opening its memories. It is read-only by construction: you can't post on a place or rename a town, and it never reaches beyond the pages you're on. See Your dashboard.
