"Is this the same person?" — two names, one entry

Someone tags Paul in a photo. Later Paul Gabriele accepts an invitation. Names only link on an exact match, so the page now has two entries for one person.

The person settles it

Right after you join a page — and any time later, above People in …'s Life — you may be asked Are you the Paul in these 3 photos? You're the one who knows. Yes, that's me brings the photos together under one name (the fuller of the two); No, someone else is remembered and you won't be asked about that name again. No manager needs to be involved.

Managers can too

Managers see The same person twice? on the review page (it counts on the review badge) and above Settings → People, and every entry has Same as…. Merging moves the photo tags, letters and invitations onto the kept entry and removes the other. Nothing is lost.

• Two entries that each have an account can't be merged — those are two people.
• Saying No is remembered; nobody is asked again about that pair.
• Two entries that both point at the same Life Page are one person by definition and are merged on their own.
• When you create a new page, we look for unlinked entries with the same name on your other pages and offer to link them.

Avoiding it in the first place

When you name someone new in a photo, the list shows anyone here who shares the first name, so Paul is one tap away before a second Paul is made. And you can tick Suggest inviting them — a manager confirms, and when the person accepts, their account lands on that very name, whatever they call themselves when they sign up.

None of this appears on the bell — it's housekeeping, not something waiting on you.
