Signing a tribute as…
The name on a tribute is a signature you choose each time — "M.", "a neighbour on Elm Street". The family sees which account it came from.
When you leave a tribute the form says Sign as, prefilled with your name. Change it to whatever should appear on the page — a first name, initials, the night nurse on ward 4.
- The signature is what the page shows.
- The people who look after the page see Signed in as Maria Rossi under a signature that isn't your account's name, so a tribute is never truly anonymous to them — that, plus their review, is what keeps tributes kind.
- There are no usernames or handles here, and no rule about what a signature may say; the family decides what goes on their page.
