The order of the grid: life order, decades, and "roughly when"

The memories grid is in the order of the life — earliest first — however they were added. Once a page holds twelve or more, the grid is cut into decades (or single years, when the life so far spans twelve or fewer), with Not yet dated at the end.

• A memory dated only to a decade reads the 1970s.
• On a remembered page each decade shows how old they were; a living person's age is never shown.
• Pinned memories lead the grid. See Pinned memories and collections.
• The timeline, calendar and map views stay strictly by date.

You can also sort by when a memory was added, for catching up on a page you've been away from.

Grouped by question

Under Filter → Group by, choose The question it answers and the grid is cut by the questions people wrote from instead of by decade: What's a typical day like this year? · 3, What always makes them laugh? · 5 — the questions with two or more answers first, one-offs after, and memories written without a question at the end under In their own words. It sticks on that page until you switch back to When it happened. A memory written from a question also says, on its own page, The same question, other years: 1998 · 2005 · 2019 — the family's other answers, with All answers taking you to that group.

A memory with the That year theme (what did things cost, who was where, the highs and the lows) needs its year — the form asks for one, this year to begin with on a living page — and leads its decade on the grid.
